Sports Curriculum
The Campbell Clinic Sports Physical Therapy Residency curriculum demonstrates a monthly joint/subject area focus in didactic education, clinical mentoring, non-clinical mentoring, and grand rounds to ensure an in-depth learning experience for all residents. These experiences will build the foundational knowledge and experience for residents to begin to develop their evaluation and treatment skills. Each week, residents will work a 40-42 hour work week with 4-6 hours of 1:1 mentorship each week. Mentorship hours will continue to focus on monthly joint/subject areas of focus and give residents the opportunity to build more advanced skills. Residents will provide 30-35 hours on average per week of clinical patient care, inclusive of their hours in mentorship. In addition, they will provide 5-10 hours on average per week of training room and athletic venue coverage.
Residents will be required to complete a written pre-test at the initiation of their residency in order to establish baseline understanding and areas of deficiency. At the midpoint of residents’ curriculum, a mid-term evaluation, live patient examinations, case study presentation, and review will be performed in order to monitor progress. At the conclusion of the 13-month program, a final examination, live patient examinations, case study presentation, and final review will be performed prior to graduation to ensure that the residents are ready to successfully achieve their OCS credentialing and become experts in the field of orthopaedic physical therapy.
Didactic education will encompass mentorship meetings, journal clubs, case studies, self-study, and physician team conferences. Additional educational opportunities include research assistance and development with the Campbell Foundation, possible Physician and PT conferences when available, Physician clinical observations, and surgical observations with different joint and subject specialties.
Tracking Results Previous Residents
At the end of the Campbell Clinic Physical Therapy Residency Program, all residents will complete an exit interview and post-graduation evaluation to collect qualitative data on how, in the resident’s opinion, the program can improve. This will focus on how the program can maintain its mission, surpass benchmarks, and modify outcomes.
Post-graduate surveys are scheduled at one (1) and five (5) years after finishing the program. These will be completed electronically with a link sent to the e-mail address provided by the resident upon graduation from the program. Surveys will include current work settings and board exam pass status. This post-graduate survey will be used to track the longitudinal outcomes of graduate residents.
